Lalita catches the eye of JB, and he quickly becomes obsessed, convinced that he must have her. Her uncle Madhi arranges the marriage, driven by JB’s money, but Lalita refuses the alliance. In response, [JB] kidnaps her and keeps her under constant watch at his home, right up to the day of the wedding. The tension between wealth, control, and desire fuels every step of their uneasy situation, and Lalita’s resistance only sharpens JB’s determination to seal the union by any means.
On the wedding day, Lalita feigns a fainting spell, using it as an opportunity to slip away. She also moves her mother out of JB’s reach and barely escapes when JB believes she has been killed after witnessing a car crash he associates with her. In truth, Lalita had swapped her wedding attire with another woman, so the person JB saw struck by the car was not Lalita at all, a deception that buys her precious time and leaves JB misguided and furious.
Lalita escapes the city and encounters Raj, initially using him as a cover while she tests her own feelings. Yet what begins as a precaution soon blossoms into love, and Lalita adopts the name Shikha as she moves deeper into Raj’s world. The romance thickens as Raj’s grandfather, Rai Saheb, takes a keen interest in their union and happily supports their imminent marriage, hoping to see the couple together.
But JB’s reach remains, and he soon learns that Lalita is very much alive through her mother. With the aid of Lalita’s cunning uncle, JB exposes Lalita’s true identity to Raj and Rai Saheb, shattering the illusion of a simple betrothal. Lalita is forcibly separated from Raj and taken back into JB’s orbit, compelled to be a dutiful wife in JB’s terms—an existence where she is bound to him, no matter the cost to her autonomy or happiness.
The story crescendos in a bitter confrontation: Raj confronts JB, who tries to kill Lalita, and Raj kills JB in the struggle. With JB gone, Raj and Lalita reclaim their future, marry, and choose to build a life together on their own terms, seeking a path toward the happiness they both long for.
