What Is West of the Pecos About?

Colonel Lambeth heads west for his health, taking his daughter Rill. Lost in the desert, they are rescued by Pecos and Chito, whom the Colonel hires. The Lambeths soon become entangled in Pecos’s problems: Pecos killed Sawtelle’s brother, and Sawtelle, now head of the vigilantes, is after him. Their meeting sparks a showdown with the bandits.

Colonel Col. Lambeth’s health is poor, so his daughter Rill Lambeth persuades him to leave behind their Chicago meat-packing business and settle on the family Texas cattle ranch. Her fiancé, a lawyer named Clyde Corbin, remains behind in the city, setting the stage for a life far from the industrial bustle he knows.
On the trail, Pecos Smith and his loyal sidekick Chito Rafferty ride up to the Lambreths’ stagecoach, where Pecos collects the payment for cattle from Tex Evans before Tex is shot during a bandit raid. The mortally wounded Tex reveals that the killer was [Sam Sawtelle], a name that will unsettle everyone and complicate the pursuit of justice.
