In the pre‑Civil War South a plantation owner dies, bequeathing his property and the enslaved people he owned to his young son. The executor, a corrupt man with a mistress, intends to sell the estate and the slaves for profit and flee to France. The boy, unwilling to break up families or lose his father’s legacy, seeks help to thwart the executor’s scheme.
