In 7th century Scandinavia, at Volsung Castle, a princess Tasya is being prepared for a ceremonial rite while a hooded stranger, a legendary figure described as the Druid, watches from the shadows. The king, King Orn, shares a hushed, tense exchange with the enigmatic visitor before he nods and the man departs. On the shore, two guards bind Tasya to a wooden frame as the royal procession arrives. The king, accompanied by the hooded sorcerer, ignores Tasya’s desperate cries as he lifts his arm and utters a plea to the sea gods, asking Jormungandr to accept this bloodline gift and safeguard Midgard. He tells Tasya not to fear and to make her clan proud, touching her face gently before returning to the stranger. A horn blasts, the waters churn, and the sea stirs—when a monstrous serpent erupts, Tasya is consumed by its jaws. The scene shifts forward a century, leaving the pained memory of the sacrifice behind.
Erick and his friend, the princess of his clan, Tasya, ride through the woods in a time long after that grim rite. Erick, bold but quick, asks Tasya to trust him, and he unveils a daring idea: a tall metal rod that could channel the lightning of the god Thor. Tasya, betrothed to another, resists gifts from gods, insisting only her future husband may give such keepsakes. Erick, emboldened by a mix of love and stubbornness, is determined to prove a bond between their peoples, even if Tasya’s betrothal complicates things. Erick receives encouragement from his father, the blacksmith Lars, who warns that lightning belongs to the gods and must not be seized by mortal hands. The village chatter swells around them as the ceremony’s tensions spike; a rogue foreboding hangs in the air as a mysterious old man—the Druid—bears watchful company of two colossal wolves, hinting that the old myths are waking once more.
A lavish feast unfolds in the village, with Wolven and his men, kin to Tasya’s betrothed, present to seal a fragile peace. Erick’s bravado shines when he steps to challenge the famed warrior Slomper, Stomper, and bests him in a display of speed and wit, earning ten pieces of gold and the title of “Erick the Blessed.” Tasya, standing near the head table, explains that her future husband is a powerful wolf-blooded lord, and the crowd erupts with mixed cheers and skepticism. The exchange leaves Erick exiled from the celebration, his dream of uniting their clans momentarily dashed. Back at the forge, Erick pleads with his father to push the forge’s heat beyond tradition, imagining stronger swords through lightning, while Lars cautions him that such power belongs to the gods and must be earned, not seized.
In the shadows, the hooded old man disappears into the forest with his wolves, foretelling that Jormungandr’s restlessness is no mere legend. Erick and Hild spar with arrows, while Tasya moves toward her destined path, the wedding moment creeping ever closer. The moment comes when the wedding draws near—three fighters face Erick and fail—yet the ceremony is interrupted as Volsung warriors descend and attack the village. Tasya is abducted, and the island omen grows heavier as King Orn falls and the invaders set sail with Tasya in tow. The surviving villagers and Erick’s party learn a stark truth: Tasya’s marriage was never completed, and the truce between the clans might not be the end of their bloodshed but the beginning of a broader war.
With Tasya taken, Erick and his companions seek every possible ally. They travel to the shore where Greylock—a weathered fisherman with a troubled past—lives with his son. Greylock is wary of legends and the volatile politics fueling the war, but he agrees to a bargain: information for passage on a boat. Along for the voyage is Mani, Greylock’s enigmatic ward who hides her true identity behind a boy’s disguise and a wary silence. Erick introduces Mani as a navigator, a claim that surprises Wolven and his crew, especially once Mani reveals a breadth of knowledge about the sea and storms, hinting at a deeper destiny than she’s willing to admit. Mani’s presence shakes the crew’s trust and forces Erick to confront a painful truth: Greylock has hidden Mani to keep the Volsung bloodline safe from Sigvat’s reach.
On Volsung soil, Sigvat—the king of the Volsung line—convenes with his sorcerous Druid and the wolves at his command. Sigvat is convinced that fear of Ragnarok will deter any alliance with Tasya’s clan, and he grows more anxious as the wizard’s prophecies warn of greater danger. Tasya, imprisoned and bound for sacrifice, endures the brutal “offerings” with a stubborn resolve, seeking any chance to defy her fate. The forest grows perilous as the Druid summons wolves to hunt Erick’s group, and a combination of cunning and courage keeps the pursuers at bay.
Meanwhile, Mani reveals another, startling truth: Sigvat is not only a conqueror but also her father. The revelation layers the conflict with old wounds and loyalties, as Mani explains that her mother Astrid died at sea while Sigvat’s jealousy and fear of losing power led him to erase her memory. Greylock had found Mani as a baby and promised to raise her away from Sigvat’s reach, twisting the tale into a protective legend. Erick is stunned by the genealogical depths but resolves to safeguard Mani, even as he contends with the looming threat of Jormungandr.
The rescue mission culminates on a windswept beach where Tasya is chained and prepared for the serpent’s ritual. The Volsung forces prepare to unleash their dreaded sacrifice, while Wolven and his crew race to intercept at the shoreline. The Druid watches with cold amusement as the serpent’s form erupts from the sea, and the would-be rescue party clashes with Volsung sentries in a brutal struggle. [Wolven] and his remaining men fight their way toward Tasya, while Erick, Mani, and Lars push forward to reach her before the ritual completes. A fierce clash erupts at the water’s edge as Jormungandr rises, the air thick with salt and fear. The serpent’s call rattles the shore, and a desperate duel erupts—the serpent’s life hangs in the balance as lightning crackles.
In a climactic moment, [Wolven] confronts Sigvat and ends him with a decisive strike, paving the way for Tasya’s freedom. Tasya is freed, and as the serpent’s jaws loom, Erick races to confront the beast with his lightning rod. The sky lights with Thor’s power as a final surge of lightning blasts the serpent, and Erick is hurled toward the shore in a thunderous explosion. Mani, watching in shock, believes Erick may be dead, only to see him emerge from the waves, alive and battered, yet triumphant. Tasya and her betrothed share a moment of relief and acknowledgment, while Erick’s eyes meet Mani’s, revealing a deeper, unspoken connection.
With the serpent vanquished and Sigvat dead, the path clears for a new era. The villagers celebrate as Erick, once branded Erick the Blessed, is celebrated as a savior who helped avert Ragnarok. Mani’s true lineage becomes a quiet secret held close by Greylock and those who protected her, and she is welcomed into the Volsung royal circle, where she ultimately rises to the throne. The final images show Erick with Tasya and Mani—two bonds forged in blood and storm—standing beside Mani as she ascends to the throne, while Erick watches over them with a quiet, protective pride. In the closing scene, Erick and Mani, now united by fate and friendship, share a regal moment with a child—a symbol of a future built from courage, sacrifice, and unlikely family. The world breathes a little easier, and a new era begins for Volsung and its allies, with the thunder of Thor’s Lightning remembered as the catalyst that bound their destinies together.
