Valhalla Echo Score Breakdown

Valhalla delivers a modestly crafted rendition of Norse mythology that struggles to satisfy both purists and casual viewers. While the visual elements and occasional performances show competence, the film is hampered by uneven direction and a storyline that departs significantly from its source material. Audience reactions hover between appreciation for its low‑budget charm and disappointment over shallow characters and narrative gaps. Consequently, the movie offers limited lasting appeal, positioning it as a middling entry in the genre.

Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.

  • Art & Craft 55

In terms of art and craft, the film exhibits competent production design and visual flair given its limited budget. Reviewers note the picturesque adventure settings and occasional striking cinematography. However, the overall execution feels cheap and the editing lacks polish, leading to a mixed perception. The artful moments are offset by technical roughness, resulting in a moderately positive assessment.

  • Character & Emotion 45

When evaluating character and emotion, criticisms dominate with remarks about flat portrayals and uninspired acting. Many reviewers found the leads lacking depth and the supporting cast underutilized. A few positive notes highlight a standout performance by the actress playing Røskva. Nonetheless, the general consensus points to weak character development, pulling the overall rating toward the lower side.

  • Story & Flow 45

The story and flow receive considerable skepticism due to deviations from the original mythos and a disjointed plot. Reviewers describe the narrative as confusing, uneven, and at times boring, though some acknowledge its suitability for younger audiences. The lack of coherent pacing and originality undermines engagement, resulting in a largely unfavorable view of the film's storytelling.

  • Sensory Experience 60

Sensory experience is one of the stronger aspects, with several comments praising the visual style and adequate sound design despite budget constraints. The movie’s aesthetic captures a mythic atmosphere that appeals to mythology enthusiasts. While not groundbreaking, the sensory elements provide enough immersion to elevate the viewing experience above the film's other shortcomings.

  • Rewatch Factor 55

Rewatch factor is moderate; some viewers find the film enjoyable as a light pastime or for its educational value to kids, while others see limited incentive for repeat viewings due to narrative flaws. Positive remarks about its adventure spirit suggest occasional repeat appeal, but overall the mixed reception limits its lasting replay value.
