Thankappan Krishnankutty Nair is a lineman with the Kerala Electricity Board who loves to drink, and his wife accepts this as part of his role as a good husband and father. His family includes his wife and two daughters, Jayasree and Sreedevi Sunitha. The film centers on the quiet consequences of his habit and how it touches every member of his household.

Vasudev Jagadish is a highly successful lawyer who makes a living by fighting accident cases and taking a hefty cut. He specializes in motor-vehicle insurance litigation and is not shy about bending the truth to secure the outcome he wants. His sharp mind and aggressive approach contrast with the more intimate, everyday struggles faced by Thankappan’s family, underscoring the social distances that separate them.

Vishnu Jayaram is an NRI who frequently returns to his native village to spend time at his ancestral home. Mathai tends the house, and his nephew Thomaskutty Jagathy Sreekumar lives with them. Vishnu and Thomaskutty strike up a friendship as they wander through the village’s bars, where Vishnu’s drinking becomes a regular pattern. Thomaskutty tries to steer him away from this lifestyle, but his efforts don’t always work.

On an unfortunate night, an intoxicated Vishnu rams his car into Thankappan. Thomaskutty urges him to leave the accident site and avoid jail, and Vishnu drives away into the darkness. Soon after, the news spreads that Thankappan has died. Thomaskutty tells Vishnu to lock the car in the garage and wait for the dust to settle, a precaution born of fear and guilt. The weight of the accident begins to press on Vishnu, prompting him to take responsibility in a way that goes beyond his own pain.

Feeling a deep sense of remorse, Vishnu decides to support Thankappan’s family financially. He visits them and, in the process, falls in love with Sreedevi. Vasudev is also drawn to Sreedevi, and he senses competition from Vishnu for her affection. The tension rises as Vasudev tries to sideline Vishnu by getting him arrested for the accident, while eyewitnesses reveal that Thankappan’s death was caused by another car linked to Vasudev. The film continues to unfold toward the revelation of the truth behind the tragedy, exploring themes of guilt, responsibility, and the complicated interplay of money, power, and mercy.
