Udhaya 2004

Udhayakumaran, Vijay, is a college student who conducts research in subatomic physics, and his work earns him a potential research position at Princeton University due to his ground-breaking papers. He ultimately declines the offer, choosing instead to stay as a lecturer at his college, where he meets Vasanthi, Simran, and a tender romance grows between them. Yet the joy is tempered when he learns that she is already engaged, prompting a difficult decision as she considers moving to another city.

With the help of Basheer, Vivek, Udhay secures a job as a reporter in Chennai. Tragedy strikes when Basheer dies in a bomb blast, and Udhaya finds himself drawn into a web of those responsible. He is introduced to their boss, Dhananjay Veeran, a figure who presents himself as a crusader while hiding darker motives. Udhaya begins to sympathize with the crusaders’ cause and even assists in developing an instrument designed to break granite slabs, a tool meant to ease hard labor for workers. In a later turn, he crafts a bomb born from his own research and hands it over to Veeran to bolster their campaign.

Veeran, however, uses the weapon on a train, killing many innocent people and framing Udhaya for the catastrophe. He is arrested as the weight of the accusation bears down, and his court appearance looms. On the way to trial, a puddle slows the police vehicle, giving Udhaya a narrow chance to escape. While on the run, he overhears Veeran and an accomplice discussing a plot to blow up a school bus, and he comes to the bitter realization that Veeran is the true culprit. He acts to save the schoolchildren just in time, thwarting the attack as Veeran storms onto the scene and tries to shoot him. A brutal confrontation unfolds, and Veeran is cast into the flames of the wreckage.

Back in custody, Udhaya faces a tense court ordeal, maintaining his innocence and ultimately being released. The final moments capture a quiet, hopeful reunion with Vasanthi as the credits roll, underscoring a resolve to seek truth and a future beyond the shadows of the past.
