Treasure Buddies 2012

Babi, Crystal the Monkey, is a nimble pickpocket who narrates to his nephew Babu Aidan Gemme how he first crossed paths with the Buddies, setting a mischievous, adventurous tone that threads through the whole journey. The action then shifts to Fernfield, where Thomas Howard [Richard Riehle] gives his grandson Pete Howard [Mason Cook] a tour of the Egyptian exhibit, and the Buddies—the loyal, playful canine crew—watch from the wings. Pete stays behind with Thomas, who hands his dog Mudbud [Ty Panitz] Digger’s bandanna, a small token that hints at a deeper history and a long-buried connection to the brothers’ lineage.

A British archaeologist, Phillip Wellington [Edward Herrmann], arrives with his cat Ubasti [Elaine Hendrix], claiming he possesses the other half of the mysterious dial and insisting on bringing both him and Pete along for the expedition. He, however, refuses to bring Mudbud due to a cat’s allergies, a clash of animal temperaments that foreshadows the tensions to come. In a bold move, the Buddies manage to stow away aboard Phillip’s DC-3 Douglas airliner, slipping into the adventure via a box of TNT, a moment that blends humor with suspense right from the start of the voyage.

upon arrival in Egypt, they meet Phillip’s assistants Tarik [Mo Gallini] and Seti [Christopher Maleki], while the Buddies form a new encounter with a young Babi (who steals Budderball’s kebab) and a young camel calf named Cammy, who Rosebud [Genevieve Hannelius] promises to help find her mother. The group of explorers and animals begins piecing together clues that point toward Cleocatra’s tomb, a legendary treasure that has drawn many seekers before them. Yet Pete and Thomas soon discover a darker motive: Phillip is a grave robber who plans to dump them after the treasure is located, a revelation that tests trust and courage among the unlikely team.

The Buddies, determined not to be left behind, trail Pete, Thomas, and the others in a hot air balloon, but a fierce sandstorm forces them to seek shelter in a cave. That cave turns out to be a secret passage to the tomb itself, where they confront danger and logic-tested traps. Inside, they meet and defeat Slither, a king cobra and steadfast protector of the tomb, a moment that showcases teamwork and quick thinking. In the chaos, a cowardly moment leads to Babi abandoning the Buddies, a setback that adds danger but also a chance for the team to prove its resilience.

What follows is a harrowing ascent: after hiding out, Thomas and Pete uncover a pyramid revealed by the storm and manage to gain entry, navigating a deadly sequence of traps that claims Seti’s life. Undeterred, they push forward and reach Cleocatra’s tomb, where B-Dawg [Skyler Gisondo] seizes the Collar of Cleocatra and begins to transform into a cat, a visually striking moment that heightens the stakes as they scramble to survive the tomb’s perils. The Buddies rally, using the same traps and ingenuity from earlier to fend off living cat statues. In a tense reversal, B-Dawg removes the collar, and Ubasti seizes it, shifting the balance of power once more.

Phillip challenges Thomas to a brutal duel after Ubasti’s fate is sealed when wearing the collar turns her to stone. Phillip gains the upper hand, only to be dazed when Pete slams a golden plate into his head, disrupting his grip on the relic. He escapes with the collar but is captured by Nomads and delivered into custody at the British Embassy, ending his threat for the moment. In the end, Thomas and Pete are hailed as national heroes alongside the Buddies, and the famous Collar of Cleocatra finds a permanent home on display in Fernfield’s museum, a testament to teamwork, courage, and the enduring bond between humans and their four-legged partners.
