Chip and Dale’s curiosity leads them into Donald Duck’s house after they see him chop down a tree near their log home to use as a Christmas tree. The duo shadow the scene, peeking through a window at bowls of nuts and candy, and decide to try their luck at a little holiday pilfering. They slip inside through the mail slot and load the tasty bounty into a toy truck, while Dale pretends to be part of a make-believe neighborhood—an act that earns a scolding from Chip for goofing around.

When the criminals become aware of the theft, Donald Duck swiftly turns the tables by weaponizing the toys around him. He surprises them by disguising himself as Santa Claus, delivering a far larger present to Chip than to Dale, which sparks a creeping jealousy and a tense bickering match between the two chipmunks. The prankster in Donald is revealed when the big nut conceals something dangerous: a handgun. He holds them at gunpoint, toys them into a toy police car crash, and fires nuts from a pop gun at them, escalating the chaos. The chipmunks fight back with a toy cannon, hoping to level the playing field.

In response, Donald builds a fort of presents on one side of the living room and returns fire with the chipmunks on the other side. Dale cunningly slips a candlestick telephone into Donald’s fort, while Chip uses the distraction to direct direct cannon fire. A frustrated Donald loads the phone with a stick of dynamite, but it fails to explode—until the chipmunks ring him again and he answers, triggering a sudden blast. With Donald incapacitated, the pair of tiny rivals retreat toward home, and they recruit the help of the mechanical toys to haul the hoard of nuts back to their own territory, in a rousing finish that nods to a bygone patriotic mood, a scene reminiscent of The Spirit of ‘76.
