Seven archaeologists uncover an ancient Inca mummy and soon fall under a chilling Inca curse that travels from their fieldwork in the Americas back to Europe. Back in Europe, the curse cripples them with a mysterious sleep: one by one they slip into a deep slumber and awaken only briefly each day, Mother Nature seemingly granting them a few minutes of clarity to glimpse the Inca sun god in their visions. The danger deepens as the sixth archaeologist succumbs to sleep after a crystal ball is hurled into his car by the Incas, signaling that the mystery is not just legend but a living threat.
At the heart of the European strand lies a familiar reunion: Professor Tarragon stays with Tintin and Captain Haddock at Marlinspike Hall, where the arrival of the Thompsons triggers a revelation—that Tarragon is the last conscious professor. A fierce thunderstorm roars in, plunging the lights into darkness, and the Incas seize this moment to push the final sleeper into sleep and to abduct Professor Calculus, who is accused of desecrating the sanctuary by donning the bracelet of the Inca sun god. The tension between duty, discovery, and a growing sense of doom threads through the halls of the manor and into the unknown.
Driven by loyalty and curiosity, Tintin, Snowy, and Haddock embark on a perilous chase that carries them from Europe to the South American landscape, crossing jagged mountains, swirling snows, and dense jungle toward a fabled frontier. Their pursuit leads them to Peru and into the shadow of the Temple of the Sun, where danger closes in and capture becomes a grim possibility. The trio faces a stark choice: they must survive a ritualistic hour of exposure to the sun, the only apparent fate that can break the spell.
In a moment of tactical calm, Tintin makes a careful, life-or-death decision about the day on which they would be burned by the sun. He that day proves to be pivotal, and with a deft use of celestial timing—the appearance of an eclipse—the odds swing in their favor. The narrative culminates in a reconciliation of past misdeeds and present peril: the curse is lifted, the archaeologists are cured, and Calculus is released from danger. The story resolves with a sense of forgiveness and restoration, underscoring themes of perseverance, friendship, and the power of intellect to outwit a deadly superstition.
