Thulasi Prabhu is a wealthy landlord in Tirunelveli who shares a home with his brother Varadappan Karan and their mother. Varadappan has a wife Sithara, a son, and a daughter Rani Vindhya. Thulasi is highly respected in the town, and he is known for a steadfast honesty—he never lies under any circumstance.

A brief flashback reveals that Thulasi once loved Kattazhagi, a memory that lingers as a quiet tragedy. An old enmity brews between Thulasi and Soonaswamy S. S. Chandran, creating tension beneath the surface of everyday life in the household. Meanwhile, Satha, Varadappan’s driver, develops feelings for Rani, adding a delicate layer of forbidden romance to the already fragile balance.

Thulasi senses the budding romance but chooses not to reveal it to Varadappan, realizing that disclosure might push the brothers apart rather than bring them closer. Soonaswamy teams up with Velu Nayakkar Ponnambalam Ponnambalam, a local thug, and his scheme to sever Thulasi from Varadappan grows increasingly dangerous. Their machinations begin to fracture the family’s harmony, forcing Thulasi to confront a cascade of choices that could threaten everyone he holds dear.

Compelled by circumstance, Thulasi leaves home with his mother, trying to shield them from the escalating danger. Varadappan soon learns of his brother’s actions and the peril facing his wife and Satha, and he resolves to end their relationship by any means necessary. The lovers flee to Thulasi for sanctuary, and he shelters them, defying the threats that loom over the house.

When Varadappan questions Thulasi about the whereabouts of the couple, Thulasi lies, claiming ignorance to protect them. Varadappan, trusting his brother’s honesty, departs, convinced that Thulasi would never lie. The tension peaks as the lovers express their gratitude for the danger Thulasi has shielded them from, only to be faced with the shocking sight of Thulasi’s death.

Varadappan is left to grapple with the consequences of his own decisions, realizing too late the weight of his suspicions and the selfishness that fueled the conflict.
