Set late in the Civil War, three Confederate soldiers escape a Union prison camp in Missouri and are captured by pro‑Confederate raiders. The raiders force them to serve as outriders—escorts for a civilian wagon train secretly transporting Union gold from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to St. Louis. Their mission is to lead the wagons into a trap, but one soldier’s growing misgivings create tension and threaten the whole scheme.
