What Is The Mare About?
The premise of The Mare without spoilers.
Susan Taslimi portrays an impoverished single mother in rural Iran who agrees to sell her 13‑year‑old daughter into marriage to a middle‑aged man in exchange for a mare that could support her younger children. Director Ali Zhekan starkly depicts poverty and patriarchal oppression—rice hidden in a tree, a brutal brother‑in‑law—while Taslimi’s fiery performance drives the mother’s desperate fight for her daughter’s freedom.
