A radio transmission detailing Pete’s getaway car is picked up by the local police, drawing the attention of the always-on-alert duo, Mickey Mouse and his sidekick, Donald Duck. Almost immediately, they spot the fugitive speeding by in the car and surge forward in pursuit, with Mickey at the helm on a motorcycle and Donald riding triumphantly in a sidecar. The chase crackles with energy, as Pete darts through streets and alleys, trying every trick to shake them off.

Despite Pete’s swift evasions and a flurry of comic near-misses, the two lawmen stay one step ahead, their bumbling methods delivering moment after moment of light-hearted chaos. They press on, following Pete to an old, abandoned sawmill that serves as his hideout, a setting that amplifies the tension and the slapstick humor in equal measure.

Inside the dim, creaking hall, Pete demonstrates his grip on the situation by chaining Fifi to the wall and snatching a submachine gun. Mickey and Donald sneak after him, closing the distance and pinning Pete at gunpoint. What follows is a sequence of escalating gags that keeps the story buoyant: the two officers appear inept at times, yet their persistence and courage push them ahead of Pete, redefining “edge-of-seat” comedy in a cartoonishly earnest way.

The climactic moment arrives when Pete stands on a log and activates a circular saw poised to cut it. The trio bolts to outrun the blade, the saw teeth gnashing and spinning with unpredictable force. The log’s end looms, the blade loosens its grip, and danger spirals as the blade threatens them all. In a final turn of fate, Pete’s peg leg catches in the blade’s arbor hole, bringing the deadly machine to a halt. Mickey and Donald act swiftly, restraining Pete with a corset and marching him off to jail while the rescued Fifi barks angrily, her loyalty clear as the instrumental cue, The Girl I Left Behind, swells in the background.
