The ChubbChubbs! 2002

Meeper, Bradford Simonsen, the janitor of an alien pub called the Ale-E-Inn, quietly dreams of something bigger—a chance to shine as a karaoke performer and bring a little joy to the unusual crowd he serves.

After a mishap where he accidentally electrocutes a singer, Meeper is ejected from the pub, feeling the sting of failure and the pull of his aspirations. Outside, an incautious Gungan warns him with a chilling pronouncement:

The ChubbChubbs are coming!

Meeper looks toward the horizon and sees aircraft landing, followed by a parade of large, weapon-bearing monsters stepping from the craft. He jumps to the conclusion that these are the ChubbChubbs, even as confusion and fear ripple through the night air.

Desperate to warn the pub, Meeper rushes back, but his attempts are fraught with misfires. Outside, he encounters a group of chicks pecking at the ground, and his anxious warnings repeatedly go awry, injuring the singer even further. The pub’s patrons, spurred by a later visitor’s warning, evacuate in a panic, leaving Meeper behind in the chaotic glow of the approaching threat.

When the danger closes in, Meeper hides four chicks under his bucket, determined to protect them at all costs. He launches into a spirited rendition of Why Can’t We Be Friends?, utterly absorbed in the music until, in a comic stumble, he trips over the bucket and the chicks are revealed. The looming monsters scream their alarm, shouting,

It’s the ChubbChubbs!

The chicks reveal razor-sharp teeth and decisively take down the monsters, who are revealed to be the fearsome Zyzaks. The awe of the moment brings the little band of creatures around Meeper, who, with a sly grin, asks the group,

So… You guys into karaoke?

As the credits roll, Meeper and the ChubbChubbs share a playful performance in the pub, delivering a cheeky rewrite of Aretha Franklin’s iconic “Respect.” The song fades to a dramatic hush, the crowd’s silence hanging in the air for a heartbeat before the ChubbChubbs’ gleaming teeth flash in a moment of theatrical threat, and the audience erupts into applause, celebrating the unlikely concert that saved the night and crowned Meeper’s dream with a surprising, gleeful ending.
