Rosario, Andrea Palma, grows up as the average Mexican girl in a humble family, raised with her father and dreaming of a more secure future promised by a boyfriend who swears marriage will come once he lands a steady job. When sickness strikes and her father cannot work, Rosario finds herself suddenly exposed to hardship, with little help on the horizon. In a cruel turn of fate, she discovers her boyfriend is sleeping with another village girl, a betrayal that leaves her distraught and drifting. She makes the painful decision to leave Cordoba City for Veracruz City, a port town that faces the Gulf of Mexico, hoping to reinvent her life.

There, she establishes herself above a sordid cabaret and begins selling love to sailors who arrive from distant shores. The work feeds a growing detachment, and she comes to take a reckless pride in how she can manipulate men’s feelings, reveling in a cold control over their hearts. One fateful night, a drunken sailor spirals toward violence, and Alberto rescues her from harm, sparing her from a brutal fate. After this rescue, they share a night of intimacy and start to talk about their backgrounds, uncovering a shocking truth: they are siblings.

Rosario, overwhelmed by the revelation, leaves the cabaret and makes her way to the dock of the port. Alberto searches for her, but the sea offers only a haunting clue—the shawl she wore floats near the dock, a grim implication that she has slipped into the water. The film lingers on the harsh, sun-bleached reality of a woman who sought power over her own destiny only to be drawn into an impossible, familial bond and a watery end that hints at despair beyond the surface.
