Spoilers ahead
Dr. Henry Jekyll has succeeded in curing a higher primate of a serious heart condition. He tests the serum on himself, and the transformation is swift, giving rise to the evil Edward Hyde. Hyde embodies a darker side of Jekyll, a separate personality that challenges his sense of self, and the film follows the tension between two intertwined identities.
Hyde’s actions unfold with brutal clarity: he murders female college students and frames Jekyll for the crimes, casting a shadow over Jekyll’s life as the investigation tightens around him. Feeling the weight of the killings, Jekyll grapples with guilt and makes a faltering attempt to atone, paying the victims’ families $30,000 in damages as a token of responsibility for the harm caused by Hyde’s violence.
