Near-death drama surrounds the nearly dead physician Dr. George Winson George Macready as his wife Ann Winson Jeanne Bates frantically seeks help from Dr. Roger Vance Jim Bannon and their pastor Fred Stevens Erik Rolf. In their desperation, Ann mines every possible source of aid and turns to those around them, hoping for a miracle. Into this tense frame steps Lilyan Gregg Rose Hobart, a mysterious woman who arrives to care for George and brings with her an unsettling influence that unsettles the couple’s fragile balance.

George’s recovery is dramatic, almost miraculous, but it does not restore warmth to his marriage. Instead, the revived physician grows cold, distant, and capable of cruelty, especially toward Ann, who once trusted him completely. Gregg quickly begins to shape George’s mind and actions, weaving herself into his vulnerabilities and bending his will to her own needs. When Vance confronts the ailing man, he discovers a startling truth: George has no pulse. An operation briefly reveals a disturbing anomaly—there is no blood flowing through him.
