Diana Armstrong gazes at the ruins of the Players Club, a strip club where she used to work. She recalls leaving home to pursue college, and, on her own, taking a job at a shoe store where she meets Ronnie and Tricks, who work for Dollar Bill at the club and persuade her that stripping could earn more money. Dollar Bill gives her the job and the name “Diamond.” Four years pass and a new chapter begins in her life.
Her younger cousin Ebony comes to live with her and also starts working at the club. Ebony soon veers off balance, indulging in heavy drinking, staying out all night, and slipping into private house parties to strip. The club’s world unfolds in a series of vivid, interwoven scenes that reveal the pressures, loyalties, and dangers those who work there face.
Several episodes unfold around the club: a visit from a famous rapper ends in a fistfight as the bodyguard punches Clyde in the back of the head; Reggie attacks the bodyguard and is thrown through the plate glass window of the VIP section; he fights back and is met with armed resistance until XL disarms him. Diamond also contends with a club patron-turned-stalker, Miron, and later angrily confronts Ebony after catching her in bed with Diamond’s boyfriend, a confrontation that exposes the fragility of trust within the night-world she inhabits.
Dollar Bill faces a grave threat when a man who works for St. Louis— a dangerous drug lord and loan shark—demands $10,000, threatening more violence if the debt isn’t paid. Dollar Bill is warned, and soon after, St. Louis’ men beat him and shove him into the trunk of his car. The rescue by crooked cops results in Dollar Bill’s arrest on warrants, though he is eventually bailed out and returns to the club.
Ebony is invited to dance at Ronnie’s brother Junior’s bachelor party. While Ronnie steps outside for a cigarette, one of St. Louis’s henchmen, Reggie, manipulates Junior into raping Ebony. He even claims that he and Clyde had earlier coerced Ebony, an assertion that Diamond counters by exposing the brutality of the night. Junior violates Ebony in the motel room while his friends look on in disgust, and the group’s loyalties fracture as they choose sides. Ronnie discovers the assault and Ebony is left to cope with the fallout. Diamond and Blue arrive, find Ebony unconscious and bloodied, and call 911. In a fierce turn of justice, Diamond confronts Ronnie at the club, delivering punishment for Ebony’s sake, before she exits with Blue after a decisive clash with Tricks and a public quit represented to Dollar Bill.
The fallout escalates quickly: Ronnie and Tricks are eventually arrested, and the same night St. Louis returns to claim what is owed, shooting up the club as Dollar Bill tries to escape. He is caught by St. Louis’ henchmen, while Brooklyn—Brooklyn—arrives later to destroy the club with a LAW rocket, sealing the venue’s dramatic end.
In the aftermath, Ebony, still bearing the marks of the assault, resumes working at the shoe store, and Ebony and Diana begin to repair their relationship. In a closing voice-over, [Diamond] narrates the fates of the characters, including herself, who remains in a relationship with Blue. She ends up working on the news, her life having shifted from the club’s glitter to a new kind of visibility and storytelling.
