Janeau Trudel and his father Luke Boulet move out of Montreal to restart their lives after Janeau’s mother’s death. Despite his high skill on the ice, the young player barely practices, letting grief take over his routine. While they settle in, a neighbor, Julie Morneau, notices his talent and the two form a cautious friendship. Julie urges him to join her hockey team so they can push toward the tournament, and he agrees to step back onto the rink.
However, Janeau’s talent stirs jealousy and friction with Joey Boulet, the team captain who is under intense pressure from his father. During a practice, a sharp remark from Joey insults Janeau’s mother, and the two clash. In a later game, Joey reveals Janeau’s injury to the opposing side, a moment that escalates tensions. [Julie Morneau] is knocked out and suffers a concussion, and Janeau fights to stay in the game. Joey steals the puck for a teammate and the team wins, but the truth about the injury is brought to light by Janeau, and Joey is shunned by his peers.
As the finals loom, the two rivals begin to bridge their feud. Julie Morneau fabricates medical clearance to help at the finals, but she is too scared to actually play. In the climactic sequence, they support each other and win the championship, with Janeau making amends with his father and finally accepting his mother’s death, celebrating alongside their teammates.
