In a bid to address what they see as the ill of modern youth, a community committee funded by their wealthy patron Uncle Chiu [Kan Yee-Ching] launches a controversial social experiment. The plan aims to test whether the love of an upstanding partner can motivate a man to become a more respectable member of society, a notion the committee believes could reform a generation. To test this theory, they select Alan Ng, a playboy biker, played by Alan Tam, as the subject, and Jo Jo Brigitte Lin to be the woman whose influence will supposedly spark the change.
Jo Jo is already engaged to a professor, Prof. Cheung Chang Kuo-Chu, which adds a layer of personal stakes to the arrangement. As the experiment unfolds, Jo Jo grows increasingly drawn to Alan as he begins to reform himself for her, presenting a fragile, hopeful arc where affection seems capable of real transformation. Yet the arrangement is compromised by the mounting tension between love, manipulation, and intent.
The situation takes a sharp turn when Jo Jo’s fiancé reveals the relationship was, at least in part, an experiment. This revelation leaves Alan heartbroken, forcing him to confront the gap between his changed image and the reality of Jo Jo’s commitments. Despite the heartbreak, he makes a dramatic public declaration of his feelings, crashing Jo Jo’s wedding and telling her that he cannot live without her. The moment blasts into catastrophe when, after the ceremony, he attempts to crash his motorcycle into the couple’s car, triggering a massive accident that sends Jo Jo to the hospital.
Haunting consequences ripple through the participants as the committee tries to salvage the project by convincing Alan that Jo Jo is dead. In a wrenching escape, Jo Jo leaves the hospital just as Alan is departing, and she jumps onto his motorcycle to ride away with him, choosing a path that rejects the artificial boundaries of the experiment and embraces a future on their own terms. The film lingers on the moral complexities of manipulation, love, and autonomy, inviting viewers to question whether genuine motivation can ever be manufactured, or if it must grow from honest choice and connection.
