What Is The Oath and the Man About?

On the eve of the French Revolution, a wealthy nobleman kidnaps the wife of a perfume merchant who is secretly leading the peasant uprising. Bound by his priest, the nobleman is forced to swear an oath that any revenge must be left to God, putting his ambitions against duty and the brewing revolt.
