The History in the Gaze (2011): Cast

The documentary surveys the years before the Mexican Revolution, from the fall of Porfirio Díaz and the ensuing social unrest, through Francisco Madero’s brief presidency, to the rise of the working class in figures like Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata, ending with the 1917 Constitution. It relies on contemporary footage shot mainly by the Alva brothers, whose images capture the conflicted, trembling perspective of the era’s people.
