Enrico Caruso, driven solely by his love of singing, abandons his Naples roots to pursue a career at New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Though his humble upbringing and limited education initially alienate him from the elite opera circle, his extraordinary voice quickly wins admiration and the affection of Dorothy. His relentless drive to perform, however, eventually undermines his health.
