Antonio, a dedicated choreographer, stages a bold reinterpretation of Bizet’s Carmen, weaving Spanish music and flamenco into every beat. He teams with Paco, a guitarist who adapts the score for his instrument, giving the music a lean, visceral edge. In search of the perfect Carmen, he scours his flamenco school, but his best dancer, Cristina, is deemed too old for the lead. Yet the fiery aura of Carmen captivates him during a rehearsal.
To convince her to take on the role, Antonio gifts Carmen a book by Prosper Mérimée after a flamenco show and urges her to read it, convinced she is destined for the part. He then enlists Cristina to train Carmen intensively, setting the stage for a competition that blends narrative and dance. During rehearsals, Antonio guides the cast to imagine the setting and atmosphere, building a charged dynamic where Carmen and Cristina’s rivalry plays out through movement.
As the romance deepens, Antonio falls for Carmen and the two share a clandestine, passionate encounter. But she slips away in the night, revealing she is married. Despite this, Antonio lends her money when she says her husband wants a fresh start. Yet Carmen’s husband reveals he plans to continue his criminal activities, sparking a tense confrontation between him and Antonio.
In a pivotal moment, Carmen’s betrayal surfaces when Antonio discovers her with another man. The tension escalates as she tells him their relationship is over. Driven by jealousy, he kills her with a switchblade.
Backstage and on stage, the boundary between reality and performance blurs as the production unravels before the audience. In the end, Antonio’s desperation drives a tragic finale, leaving viewers to question what was real and what belonged to the show.
