Zeus, a loyal Labrador Retriever and a former police dog, has lost his bark after his loud alerts helped derail a long, five-year investigation, and his human partner struggles with accuracy, ending up at the pound. When George Bannister adopts him as an early Christmas gift and as a protective presence for the family, the calm of home feels renewed, though the family matriarch remains hesitant about bringing a dog inside. On Christmas Eve, the Bannister household heads off to visit Grandma Bannister, leaving Zeus to guard the empty house.

Inside, a pair of burglars—Ted Stein and Stewey McMann—slip in and begin rifling through belongings, testing Zeus’s resolve to protect his new home. Zeus uses his wits and a series of improvised defenses to slow them down and buy time, determined to restore Christmas cheer for his new family. The chase spills through the rooms as the intruders press on, eventually leading to a moment where one of the men accidentally harms himself with pepper spray.

Ted, armed with a tranquilizer gun, makes a late run for the exit and aims for Zeus, but a misstep leaves Stewey unconscious instead. With the danger escalating, Ted tries to carry on alone, dragging the disabled partner as they scramble for a getaway. In a dramatic finale, Zeus delivers a bold gambit by dropping a chandelier on the would-be criminals, knocking them out and ending the threat. The police arrive to secure the arrest, and the Bannister family returns to a house that has survived the night.

In the end, Christmas is saved, the house is intact, and the family shares a moment of relief and joy, grateful for their canine guardian and the resilience that keeps their holiday spirit bright.
