Two rival brothers, Karl Schiller and Franz Schiller, chase the legendary ring of the Nibelungen, a mystical jewel that confers power to its bearer. Karl, an archaeologist, hopes to safeguard the ring by donating it to an archaeological institute; Franz, a hard-edged materialist, dreams of wealth and influence through its control. After studying Karl’s research, Franz makes his way to the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, arriving at the ancient castle of Count Dracula.

In a nearby village, Tanya, the innkeeper’s daughter, warns him that on the first full moon night of summer five virgin girls are chosen by the powers of evil and taken to the castle to be sacrificed, a place said to be infested with vampires. She also hands him an amulet for protection, but he forgets to take it when he leaves after spending the night with the girl.

At the castle, in the manner of Count Dracula, he is greeted by Lara, the housekeeper, and he meets La Contessa Dolingen de Vries, the Count’s widow. The Countess uses the ring to lure girls to the castle, kill them, and bathe in their blood. Bewitched and bitten by her, Franz immediately becomes her husband. Their marriage is followed by the sacrifice of five girls.

Karl arrives in Transylvania, pursued by the ring’s legend, but he does not yet know that his brother has been vampirized by the Countess.
