It follows Brazilian Juan Manuel de Rosa, who abandoned music school for western films and becomes a Hollywood composer of Western scores. At 32 he lives in an abandoned Uruguayan slaughterhouse, neglects his fiancée Esmeralda, cares for a black mare, Bola; cowboy‑clad men arrive, kill both Rosa and Bola, prompting a suspicious investigation.
