The Conmen in Vegas 1999

Picking up after The Conman, the story follows Dragon Nick Cheung Ka-Fai and King Andy Lau, who have become swindlers, as they team up with Dragon’s older cousin Luk Chard Natalis Chan Pak-Cheung for a daring scheme against an infamous underground casino run by the shadowy Big Eyed Man. The trio bets on a dazzling score, counting on luck to seal their freedom and fortune, while their camaraderie is tested by danger and betrayal.

But the plan quickly spirals when Big Eyed Man dispatches killers to wipe them out and to kidnap Dragon, throwing the group into a high-stakes scramble. Their luck worsens when they are captured by the Senior Chinese Front, who decide to recruit them for a mission that travels far beyond Macau or Hong Kong. They are sent to Las Vegas with the aim of capturing Peter Chu [Alex Man Chi-Leung], a figure behind a string of failed projects in China who has fled to the United States. Chu is backed by powerful American politicians and organized crime, making extradition through normal channels impossible; the Front instead bets on a team of gambling experts to track him down inside Caesars Palace.

The reward on the table is immense—$120,000,000—yet King must first secure a crucial advance: $30,000,000 to pay off Big Eyed Man to rescue Dragon. The weight of that obligation pushes him to accept the mission and travel to Las Vegas with Luk Chard, where a new set of alliances begins to form.

In Las Vegas, the team crosses paths with two glamorous women they previously met in Hong Kong: Betty Kelly Lin Hsi-Lei and Sammi Yu Fang. The quartet devises a trap: Sammi seduces Chu to draw him in, but Chu is not so easily controlled. His henchmen and girlfriend Fei-fei Li Fei are waiting at the airport, forcing a shift in plans and sending the chase onto an unfamiliar road. King decides to escort Chu on a road trip toward Los Angeles, turning the pursuit into a tense desert trek where danger intensifies and nerves fray.

The desert ordeal tests everyone, with the harsh terrain and sudden threats pushing the group to their limits. Luk Chard endures a rattlesnake bite, while Chu faces his own peril, as the journey becomes a game of survival as much as a manhunt. A timely alliance arrives in the form of Handsome Wu Wong Jing, an adult-film director who happens to be filming in the desert. Wu brings cinematic tricks into play, staging a rescue-style assault that deceives Chu and helps funnel him back toward China, where mainland authorities await to take custody.

Back home, the operation culminates as the stolen money is recovered after Chu unknowingly reveals the password to his safe, a revelation that seals the financial side of the case. In the end, the mission leaves a personal mark as well: King and Betty forge a new, tender bond, adding a soft counterpoint to the film’s hard-edged heist and chase.
