Character work emerges as a strong point, with many reviewers noting nuanced performances. The chemistry between Robert Buckley and Jonathan Bennett is highlighted as realistic and engaging, and supporting actors such as Treat Williams and Sharon Lawrence receive commendation for depth. While a minority criticize certain portrayals, the overall sentiment underscores credible emotional resonance and credible sibling dynamics that anchor the film.

The narrative centers on a festive competition that adds a fresh structure to the sequel. Reviewers appreciate the tighter pacing, reduced filler, and clearer focus on the brothers' rivalry, which enhances plot coherence. Some critique the ending as overly tidy and occasional comedic moments as forced. Nevertheless, the story maintains sufficient originality and momentum to keep audiences invested throughout the runtime.

Sensory elements receive favorable remarks, particularly the soundtrack’s nostalgic quality that avoids excessive saccharine tones. Visuals, including décor and scenery, are described as attractive and less tacky than in the original. Rewatch potential is bolstered by the film’s humor, family dynamics, and light‑hearted competition. Many viewers express eagerness for a third installment, indicating lasting appeal. While a few find the sequel uneven enough to discourage repeat viewings, the majority regard it as a fun, repeatable holiday option that maintains its charm beyond a single watch.
