In 1950, filmmaker Miguel Contreras Torres spearheaded a group of filmmakers who publicly condemned William O. Jenkins' control over film theaters, a system built on crime and corruption. Subsequently, Contreras Torres, often called "Uncle Miguel," faced ridicule and was largely forgotten. His actions, however, marked a significant moment in the separation of Mexican cinema and its audience. Lost films made by Miguel may hold valuable discoveries, and reviving these pictures could help recover this untold history, which Contreras Torres attempted to preserve through his writings in The Black Book of Mexican Cinema.
