In southern Mexico at the turn of the 20th century, stories circulate about cattle and farmers vanishing near a place called Hollow Mountain, a region wrapped in superstition and danger. The mountain itself has never been explored, and the swamp at its base is said to claim the lives of anyone foolhardy enough to tread its banks. Against this backdrop, an American cowboy Jimmy Ryan leads his business partner Felipe Sanchez Carlos Rivas and their worker Manuel Jos Chávez into the area in a bid to locate lost cattle. They split up to cover more ground, hopeful but cautious, as the swamp’s rumors nag at them. Felipe tumbles into a quicksand pit at the swamp’s edge and is nearly pulled under, yet Jimmy and their lasso-wielding aid manage to pull him to safety. When Manuel arrives, the trio spots a single drowned cow drifting in the murky water, reinforcing Manuel’s belief in the curse—though Jimmy and Felipe remain unconvinced as they decide their next steps.

Back in the nearby town, Jimmy stops by a cantina where a boy named Panchito waits for his father, Pancho, who has been drinking heavily to forget his late wife. As the pair step away, a group of rowdy boys pelt them with firecrackers, sending Pancho’s horse to bolt and dragging Pancho along the ground. Jimmy intervenes to save him, and the townsfolk rally to ensure Pancho is uninjured. Don Pedro, the town’s alcalde, greets Jimmy and the two discuss the cattle disappearances; Don Pedro fears the Hollow Mountain’s curse could be involved. But a rival, the abrasive Don Pedro’s son-in-law-to-be, Enrique [Eduardo Noriega], arrives with a hard-edged demand that Jimmy leave the country and return to Texas. Enraged by the possibility of losing Sarita’s affection to an American rancher, Enrique resents Jimmy’s presence and tries to assert his own dominance. The confrontation nearly erupts into a brawl, but Don Pedro steps in to restore calm, and Jimmy departs with a quiet apology.

The following morning brings fresh news: Manuel and the other ranch hands have quit, claiming fear of the Hollow Mountain’s curse. As the night festival approaches, the watchful eyes of both the town and Enrique intensify. Enraged by Sarita’s decision not to marry him if it means losing Jimmy, Enrique orders a plan to stampede the cattle away from the station and scatter them into the hills, an act meant to ruin the shipment and force Jimmy out. While Margarita and Don Pedro finalize preparations, Panchito resolves to rescue his father from the swamp, despite his mother’s pleas to stay away. In the swamp, Pancho confronts the Beast of Hollow Mountain—a fearsome Allosaurus megalosaurus—that lurks nearby and claims Pancho’s life off-screen, leaving Panchito shattered and alone.

Back at the ranch, Jimmy contemplates moving away during the shipment, effectively handing the ranch to Felipe as a safeguard against Enrique’s intimidation. Felipe is clear that he would have to kill Enrique if Jimmy truly steps away, a sign of how personal the feud has become. Panchito delivers the grim news of Pancho’s fate, and the mood in town grows heavy as the festival approaches. Jimmy’s goodbye to Panchito is tinged with heartbreak as Sarita’s feelings for him threaten the wedding’s course.

The festival is alive with music, lights, and the crackling energy of fireworks, but the danger of Enrique’s plan looms large. Panchito, still seeking his father, ventures deeper into the swamp with Sarita in tow, while Jimmy and Felipe rush to intervene. The Beast roams the night—an enormous predator that stalks the cottage where Sarita and Panchito hide from the monster. The creature breaks through the roof, forcing Sarita to defend herself with a long hook while Jimmy distracts the beast with gunfire. In a desperate gambit, Jimmy guides Sarita and Panchito from the cottage and leads the beast toward a mountain, hoping to corral it away from the town.

Enrique, seeing his plan spiraling out of control, pursues the trio but is knocked from his horse when the beast lurches toward him and forcefully hurls him into danger. Sarita, Panchito, and the others rally to distract the creature as Jimmy and Felipe retreat toward a tar pit at the base of Hollow Mountain. The beast follows, but Jimmy’s quick thinking and formidable rope work save the day: he swings from a tree while the creature closes in, and the tar pit proves to be its undoing as the beast’s feet become stuck in the sticky black ooze. The beast roars in agony as it sinks, while Jimmy, Sarita, Panchito, Felipe, Don Pedro, and the rest of the cowboys watch the tar pull the creature down.

With the threat finally neutralized, the town breathes a collective sigh of relief. The danger has passed, and the community stands united against the Hollow Mountain’s shadow. Jimmy, Sarita, Panchito, and the others look toward a future that is uncertain but safer now that the beast is vanquished and the human conspiracies have been exposed.
