Don [Jeff Fahey] and his wife Nancy [Heather Marie Marsden] are a married couple whose rough patch has them seeking a quick escape at a casino getaway. A car crash soon disrupts their attempt at a fresh start, leaving them shaken and scrambling for help. They dial the town sheriff, who suggests they head to a nearby motel and promises to tow the car the next day. What begins as a routine shelter turns terrifying when they discover blood in their apartment and a nearby room where a girl has been savagely killed.

From that moment, the couple is thrust into a claustrophobic nightmare. The motel is staffed by workers who keep to the shadows, and outside the walls, men wearing eerie masks stalk the hallways with grim purpose. With no real weapons, little backup, and the clock ticking, Don and Nancy must improvise in order to survive a hostile night that seems to stretch on forever. The tension tightens with each encounter, each faint sound in the hall, and each moment they realize how isolated they truly are.

As the night unfolds, Don fights to protect Nancy, pushing through danger and fear to take on the assailants. In a brutal sequence of events, he manages to push back the threat and, at great cost, to rescue Nancy from the edges of collapse—even as the film reveals the sheriff’s role in the motel’s malevolent plot. The true mastermind behind the nightmare—the motel’s owner—emerges, killing the sheriff and revealing a broader scheme that veers beyond a single night. The surviving protagonist endures, but the rules of this night have been rewritten, and escape feels more like a fragile mercy than a guarantee.

The story shifts to a funeral for Sydney [Lacey Minchew], the girl who was killed earlier, and the mood underscores the film’s sense of indiscriminate danger. At the service, a motel worker hints at a nearby motel he supposedly owns, a line that hints at networks of danger that outlive any one night. The words hang in the air just as another man overhears and confronts the other, only to walk away in uneasy silence. In a final, unsettling image, a car explosion cuts short the moment, and the camera lingers on Don and Nancy walking away together, their figures small against a field of weeds by the road—a quiet, unresolved ending that keeps the danger just out of reach.
