The film unfolds in a dim, fluorescent office run by wolves who hand-copy documents with pencils, a setting that feels both meticulous and suffocating. The daily grind tightens like a noose as one worker collapses from overwork, a stark reminder of a world that treats effort as expendable. A bulldog boss clues the audience in to the stakes by slamming a button that sends him sliding through a trapdoor beneath the desk and re-emerging as a gleaming robot who writes at lightning speed. The energy of the voices underpins this odd, satirical world, brought to life by Mel Blanc. In this strange workplace, humor threads through menace, and the machine seems always poised to outpace the human.

Soon, another yawns and is likewise dropped through a desk trapdoor, replaced by another rapid-fire robot. The replacements keep coming, and the tally grows for even smaller offenses: drinking water, sneezing, or minor injuries. One worker, desperate to muffle a sneeze, stuffs two pencils up his nose, only to launch a spray of pencils into a coworker’s head. The office echoes with the sterile efficiency of metal bodies replacing human hands, a montage that steadily erases the human element from the scribbling’s rhythm.

Amid the replacements, the surviving worker remains stubbornly at his desk, madly scribbling away, and discovers with shock that his own boss has become a boss-robot. When this new superior finally exits, the last human decides to push back. He initiates a cartoonish, over-the-top counterattack, blowing up a robot with dynamite, dropping others through their desk trapdoors, battering several with improvised tools, and delivering an electric shock that reduces one to a pile of cinders. The clash escalates as the worker and the lone remaining robot face the looming threat of the boss-robot pressing the trapdoor button.

In a sudden turn of cooperation, the two unlikely allies shove the trapdoor beneath the boss-robot, sending it into the opening below. They peer down into the pit, and the last worker seizes the moment to capitalize on the opportunity—still clutching a cigar—and push the trapdoor button on the viewer.
