Sun Strobes Light Shows Nitobe (1965): Cast

The film records Sam’s “Sun Strobes” experiments, in which he looks directly at the sun with his eyes closed, then extends both hands fully in front of his face and moves them up and down, creating a strobing light pattern on the eyelids that produces vivid, shifting visual motifs. Using 16 mm cameras, Sam and Gary Lee‑Nova travel to the Nitobe Garden in late spring or early summer of 1965, where Sam holds green leaves up to his eyes, examining their internal structures while the camera captures the intimate interaction between light, plant form, and perception.
