Feeling stuck in life, Hélène Masson, Annie Girardot, a 38-year-old fashion entrepreneur, checks into the private clinic run by Dr Devilers Alain Delon along the windy Brittany coast. The place caters to wealthy regulars, and most of the staff are unskilled Portuguese workers who seem perpetually exhausted and faint at the drop of a hat. The clinic’s controversial regime centers around fresh cell therapy, a treatment that promises renewal but which some warn may be dangerously addictive. The atmosphere is glossy and reassuring on the surface, yet there is an underlying tension as Hélène notices the routine is tightly controlled and increasingly impersonal.

Her friend Jérôme warned her about the price of admission—both monetary and moral—but he can no longer keep up with the fees, and his counsel rings hollow as she becomes more entangled in the clinic’s rituals. Then tragedy strikes: the next day, Jérôme is found dead at the foot of the cliffs, and the local police inspector immediately writes it off as a suicide. Hélène, a woman who refuses to accept easy explanations, starts piecing together the inconsistencies that surround the death and the clinic’s operation.

Fluent in Portuguese, she earns the trust of Manoel, Jurandir Craveiro, one of the unhappy workers, and manages to slip into his world. In his room, she uncovers a chilling scene: she hides behind a curtain and witnesses doctors drawing a large amount of blood from Manoel, a startling glimpse into what the clinic is really doing behind closed doors. The actions of the charming Dr Devilers become more menacing as he senses she is closing in, and he does not hesitate to bring her into his private circle, a seduction that complicates her resolve and blurs the lines between danger and desire.

When she returns to her own escape plan, she discovers that her car has been sabotaged and the phone lines are dead, a clear sign that someone is trying to silence her. Undeterred, she breaks into the laboratory and is met with a grisly sight: Manoel’s corpse, partially harvested for serum, a grotesque reveal that confirms her worst suspicions. Devilers confronts her in the lab, and what follows is a tense, fraught confrontation that taps into the earlier intensity of their encounters. In a final, desperate struggle, Hélène stabs him, killing him as the truth about the clinic’s experiments comes to light.

Back at the clinic, the police inspector—who has long hoped the facility can continue its work—dismisses Hélène’s testimony as a product of psychological distress and orders her arrest for murder. The film leaves a chilling question in the air: who really governs this glossy sanctuary, and at what cost does the pursuit of a miracle come to the people who seek it?
