They fall asleep, only for Pete to awaken later in a panic and, guilt-ridden for the kiss, throw himself in front of a passing lorry. The crash is devastating, and Shell is left distraught by her father’s suicide.

Adam remains by Shell’s side as she grieves, offering quiet comfort, but morning brings little relief. A lorry arrives for fuel, and Shell, feeling the weight of her loss and uncertain about the future, walks away from Adam and climbs into the driver’s seat of the next vehicle. She leaves with the unknown driver, with no concrete plan for where she will end up. The film closes on stark, expansive shots of the Destitution Road, leaving Shell’s fate open as the landscape speaks to her isolation and resilience.
