Set against the backdrop of British-ruled India, a wealthy police DIG is approached by a poor freedom fighter named Devdutt, who hopes to see his daughter Janki wed the DIG’s son, Ratan. The DIG and his wife Rajlaxmi resist any involvement with Devdutt, yet Janki remains determined, insisting that the match is her choice. After initial resistance, the DIG’s family reluctantly agrees to this arranged marriage. Soon after, unrest flares up as riots erupt between the police and freedom fighters, and the DIG is killed in the turmoil. Rajlaxmi assigns blame to Devdutt for the tragedy, and in a cruel twist, she forces a pregnant Janki to leave the family home. Ratan, unable to stand up for his wife, remains a silent observer as Janki is cast out.

Janki seeks shelter with her father, who, tragically, passes away. It is during these hard times that Janki gives birth to a son, Rajesh, anchoring the next chapter of their fractured family. Years pass, and Rajesh grows into a young man who drives a truck and falls in love with a local shopkeeper named Chanda, to whom he wishes to propose marriage. Meanwhile, Janki longs for her son to meet his father, hoping to bridge the rift that time and pride have created.

As Rajesh contemplates reconnecting with his lineage, Rajlaxmi organizes a grand, almost ceremonial welcome for him, hoping this display will persuade him to stay and Distance himself from his mother. Rajesh, however, demands a sincere apology from Rajlaxmi to Janki before any bond can be rebuilt, a condition she refuses to meet, and she tells Rajesh to leave. This stinging rejection sets the stage for Rajesh and Chanda to marry, an event that is soon shadowed by Chanda’s pregnancy.

In the wake of these unions, the law steps in: Rajesh is arrested and faces potentially years behind bars. The truth eventually comes to light, and the real culprit is caught, leading to Rajesh’s release. He returns home to a world that no longer feels the same. Chanda has given birth to a baby boy and now lives with Rajlaxmi, refusing to return to the original home. Faced with a changed landscape and a lingering mystery, Rajesh sets out to understand what compelled Chanda to leave Janki and join Rajlaxmi, seeking closure in a family history that has already been rewritten by pride, power, and circumstance.
