Mandy Lundy, a 16-year-old high school student, wakes up on her front lawn after a night of hard partying with friends. A barrage of text messages from her friends announces that a video has gone viral, showing her face down and seemingly unconscious at the party. The footage is disturbing: she is surrounded by a group of snickering boys, and her memory of the night is blank. The shock of the moment is compounded by uncertainty, and she recalls nothing of what happened.

Bruises along her lower back appear later, noticed by her basketball teammates, but Mandy does not seek support for the trauma. The aftereffects ripple through her social circle, amplifying the pressure and scrutiny she already faces. When Mickey Lundy and Kerri Lundy, Mandy’s parents, learn the truth, they decide to take her to meet with school administrators to address the situation. Mandy and other members of the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are suspended from the teams for drinking, and she becomes the target of online bullying. Her parents urge her to try EMDR therapy to help recall details of the assault, even as Mandy wrestles with the possibility that some memories may remain out of reach.

The aftermath extends to Mandy’s relationships. Her boyfriend, A.J., is arrested for “video voyeurism” after admitting that he photographed the assault, along with other boys. Her friends Jenna and Dylan attempt to offer support, though the social ostracism and media attention make it hard for them to be comfortingly present. Principal Principal Marsh confronts the family, labeling Mandy a “distraction” and advising she study at home rather than participate in school life.

Tensions rise as tensions between Mandy’s family and AJ’s father unfold. He apologizes to Mandy’s father, but the moment devolves into a shouting match. Mandy asks to visit Jenna, but her father forbids it. Later, Mandy attends a party with Dylan, and when he returns her home, he claims he took her back but did not witness her passing out on the lawn. He asserts he does not know what happened that night. Mandy’s EMDR therapist expresses the possibility that she may never fully remember what occurred, acknowledging the limits of memory in the aftermath of trauma.

Law enforcement and investigators struggle with the evidence. Police inform Mandy and her parents that they cannot determine who photographed what from the seven phones and two tablets they have examined, which prevents the district attorney from pursuing a case further. To explore options, Kerri consults with a lawyer who suggests that a public press conference could pressure the investigation to continue, though such a move could bring relocation and years-long civil litigation into play.

Ultimately, Mandy chooses not to pursue the case in court. After the school prom, Dylan texts her a video suggesting he may have taken advantage of her while she was under the influence, but she deletes the clip. The story remains focused on the emotional and practical hurdles that follow a traumatic event, the clash between memory and accountability, and the difficult choices a young person and her family must navigate in the face of public scrutiny and uncertain justice.
