Satyaprem, nicknamed “Sattu,” is an unhappy lower-middle-class young man who finds himself stuck between a struggling career and a family that leans on his mother and younger sister to keep the household afloat. With his father and himself unemployed, the pressure to marry weighs heavily as he remains the last single man in his neighborhood. His mother, while not eager to secure a husband for him, begins to search for a groom for her daughter, Katha, setting up a complex dynamic of expectations and love in the air. Sattu confesses that he is still in love with Katha, a woman he glimpsed a year earlier at a Garba celebration, even though she was then involved with a man named Tapan. The memory of that first glance lingers as fate nudges him toward a second encounter.

From what he learns, Katha has broken up with Tapan and her parents are now weighing marriage prospects for her. With his father, Narayan Bhai, he returns to the Garba, hoping to glimpse Katha dance again. There they cross paths with Katha’s father, Harikishen Bhai, a wealthy businessman who owns a popular snack shop, along with Katha’s mother and her younger sister, Kinjal. The family’s warmth and the shadow of a hidden wound surround Sattu as he discovers that Katha is sick, and, after some persuasion from Narayan Bhai, he goes to her home. What he finds is devastating: Katha had attempted to slit her wrists. He rushes her to the hospital, and though she recovers, she remains angry with him for “saving” her life. That night, she reaches out with a text to thank him, hinting at the fragility of the bond forming between them. The next day, Sattu visits her and brings flowers, a quiet gesture that signals the beginning of a careful healing.

A few days later, Katha’s parents present a marriage proposal to Sattu’s family. He is overjoyed and accepts, eager to commit to a life with the woman he loves. Katha, however, is unhappy with the arrangement but agrees to proceed. After the wedding, Sattu’s attempts at closeness are met with reluctance; Katha asks to sleep separately, using his snoring as a convenient excuse. He tries to fix his snoring, but the problem appears to be a shield for a deeper discomfort. When he directly asks, Katha confesses that she lied about being asexual and that she does not feel comfortable revealing the real reason behind her hesitation—a revelation that shakes him but does not break his resolve.

Sattu confronts Harikishen, and the elder advises patience: give Katha more time to warm up to him, and continue to make her feel safe. He takes the counsel to heart, and, slowly, he begins to win her over with thoughtful gestures, gifts, and simple dates. Their bond grows warmer, and Katha admits the deception about being asexual, though she still struggles to share the deeper trauma at the core of her fear. Sattu’s unwavering support becomes a steady anchor as she urges him to try again with his law studies. One night, Katha invites Sattu to share a bed once more, but when they attempt to be intimate, she has an emotional breakdown. The truth of her past begins to surface: Tapan had raped her the year before the Garba celebration, leaving her pregnant and forcing an abortion. Her family shunned her, and this brutal history explains much of the fear that shadows intimacy and trust.

Enraged and deeply protective, Sattu confronts Harikishen and heads to Tapan’s workplace to confront him directly, a moment that ends with Sattu being arrested, though Tapan does not press charges. In the wake of this violence, Sattu and Katha decide to leave for Kashmir for their honeymoon, a step that deepens their bond even as Katha remains cautious about physical intimacy. The couple returns home—with a renewed sense of purpose—where the day of Satyanarayan Puja marks a turning point. Sattu arrives bearing the necessary legal papers to file an FIR against Tapan and encourages Katha to sign them, signaling a shared commitment to fight for justice. In this moment, they perform the Puja together and reaffirm their decision to face the future as a team.

From there, the narrative follows their slow but steadfast journey toward healing and empowerment. Sattu finally earns his law degree, a culmination of years of study and perseverance, while Katha begins to heal under the steadfast support and understanding of the man who stood by her through every storm. Their story moves from dilemmas of love and trust to a battle for dignity, showing how resilience, patience, and mutual respect can transform pain into a path forward.
