In the heart of the stunning Kimberley landscape, 12-year-old Pete, played by Cameron Wallaby, resides in a dilapidated drive-in theatre alongside his wise and elderly grandfather, Jagamarra, affectionately called Jubi, portrayed by David Gulpilil. As Pete’s dream of transforming their property into a restaurant grows stronger, Jubi imparts age-old wisdom filled with life lessons that resonate across generations. Although Pete deeply yearns for the return of his mother, Lynelle, acted by Rohanna Angus, who could support his ambitions, Jubi remains doubtful about her likelihood of coming back to this isolated, yet breathtaking region.

Their serene existence faces a serious threat when a powerful mining corporation arrives, laying claim to their land and declaring plans to construct a storage facility that would devastate their cherished home. Fueled by an unwavering determination to protect their territory, Pete rallies his loyal friend, Kalmain, portrayed by Joseph Pedley, for a daring bicycle journey into the city, hoping to appeal to the company’s officials. Kalmain, on the run from the law, views this as a chance to evade trouble while seeking temporary refuge.

As they embark on this treacherous journey, Pete’s youthful innocence and inexperience lead them into unforeseen challenges, forcing them into a traditional walkabout through the relentless wilderness. With the stakes escalating, Pete is compelled to harness Jubi’s profound guidance, navigating not only their mission but also the twists and turns of his personal growth. At the same time, he contemplates the elusive possibility of reconnecting with his mother, who is yearning to take him to Perth to follow her aspirations of becoming a beautician.
