Ganapati Deva, Krishnam Raju, rules the Kakatiya Empire from Orugallu, a city that stands as the heart of a growing kingdom. His realm faces two internal threats in the dukes of the land, Murari Devudu and Hari Hara Devudu, who are clearly dissatisfied with the way the throne is being wielded. Outside threats loom as well, with Emperor Singhana of the Devagiri Empire coveting the Kakatiyas and hoping to crown his own grandson, Mahadeva, as the ruler. Amid this political turbulence, Ganapati’s wife is pregnant, and the court stays hopeful for a male heir who could rally the kingdom against its enemies. A priest allied with Murari and Hari Hara predicts that the child will be a girl who will become the kingdom’s savior, a prophecy that sets off a dangerous turn of events.

To protect the realm, Ganapati heeds the guidance of his prime minister, Siva Devayya and Prakash Raj, and publicly proclaims Rudrama, his newborn child, to be a boy. The birth of Rudrama Devi is kept secret from almost everyone, including the baby herself, while the royal couple and their trusted ally organize a careful ruse that balances the need for continuity with the danger of exposing the truth. The decision weighs heavily on the king and his counsellors, who fear that the revelation of a girl on the throne could invite catastrophe from both internal rivals and external invaders.

Rudrama is raised with the training of a prince, learning the arts of leadership, diplomacy, and war. As she grows, she bonds with neighboring princes: Chalukya Veerabhadra and Gona Ganna Reddy, whose paths cross with hers in both camaraderie and competition. The moment of self-discovery arrives when Rudrama, on a river excursion, encounters an exquisite statue of a noble woman. The sight makes her realize the truth about her own body, and she runs to her mother in confusion. Her mother confesses the sacrifice made to protect the kingdom, and Rudrama swears to continue living as a boy until the realm is secure—an oath that will define the years to come.

Years pass, and a public test arrives in the form of a sporting event where Rudrama is challenged by Naga Devudu’s nephew, but the rules of the contest have been rigged by Murari and Hari Hara to ensure no one can win. Rudrama rises to the occasion and triumphs, earning the affection and admiration of many, including Muktamba. Meanwhile, the once-exiled Gona Ganna Reddy—who was accused of treachery but actually remains fiercely loyal—re-enters the scene with a personal stake in Rudrama’s fate. He has grown into a formidable leader and, though shunned by the throne’s inner circle at first, he is determined to stand by Rudrama’s side when the moment comes.

With Rudrama’s coronation looming and Ganapati facing mounting pressure from within his court, he decides to arrange a political marriage with Muktamba. Yet Rudrama, safeguarding her secret, tells her betrothed that she has taken a vow of celibacy for the sake of the kingdom’s safety. The exchanged words are intercepted by a spy, and the truth about Rudrama’s gender edges toward the public arena. Siva Devayya, torn between loyalty and truth, chooses to reveal Rudrama Devi’s true identity to the people, a revelation that shocks the populace and fractures the ruler’s legitimacy in the eyes of many.

The reaction is swift and harsh: Rudrama Devi’s legitimacy is questioned, Ganapati loses the trust of the people, and Murari and Hari Hara seize the opportunity to stage a coup under the pretense of Mahadeva’s name. Siva Devayya collapses from a heart attack just as the regime’s grip tightens, leaving a power vacuum that The people and Rudrama must fill. A wave of oppression follows, with inflated taxes and a renewed aristocracy, driving the populace toward desperation. In the face of this crisis, Rudrama Devi—fueled by the memory of her oath and the support of those who never stopped believing in her—places herself at the heart of a growing resistance.

The struggle brings together former allies and erstwhile rivals: Rudrama Devi forges a pact with Gona Ganna Reddy to reclaim the throne. Their combined forces—an army larger and more determined than Murari and Hari Hara’s—turn the tide. They also counter the Devagiri Empire’s advance and win back the kingdom’s independence. In a decisive turn of events, Rudrama Devi regains the crown and, embracing her role as a ruler, marries Chalukya Veerabhadra to unite the lands under a single banner. With her newly solidified power, she becomes the first queen of South India, ushering in an era of unity and strength for the Kakatiya dynasty.

Throughout this sweeping tale, the film weaves themes of gender, duty, and political cunning, presenting a nuanced portrait of a ruler who navigates danger, deception, and devotion to her people. The story remains anchored in the complex relationships between Rudrama Devi, her guardians, and the men and women who shape the fate of Orugallu. The result is a rich, dramatic chronicle of a kingdom’s struggle to survive and thrive under a female sovereign who rises to meet history head-on, earning lasting respect and admiration from those who stood by her and those who would come to know her name.
