Shorty is introduced as a bitter man who is kicked out of a nightclub after clashing with a couple. He heads to a nearby bar owned by Al, a wary host who isn’t sure he wants Shorty lingering around.
A talent agent, Sir Bop, has persuaded Al to let his client, Julie, audition as a singer. Inside the bar, Steve, a journalist hunting for a story, adds a buzz of tension to the room. Julie’s nerves show in a tentative audition, her voice wavering as she stumbles through a song, underscoring the uncertain mood that grips the bar.
