What Is Rickshaw Boy About?
The premise of Rickshaw Boy without spoilers.
Xiang Zi, a rickshaw puller yearning for success and freedom, marries Hu Niu, who later dies in childbirth. After her death he meets Xiao Fuzi, who falls for him, but poverty drives them apart. He works tirelessly to escape poverty, only to learn Xiao Fuzi has died just as hope appears. Ultimately, the resolute Xiang Zi yields to the bleakness of his society.
