As Lee Leander awaits her trial in a jail cell, accused of stealing a beautiful bracelet from a jewelry store in New York City, she finds herself at the mercy of John “Jack” Sargent, the Assistant District Attorney assigned to prosecute her case. The timing of the trial, right before Christmas, feels particularly harsh, adding a layer of irony as the festive season approaches.
