Refrains Happen Like Revolutions in a Song (2010): Cast

Sarah is a debt collector living in the village of Guimbal on Panay who sets out for Negros to find a young man who haunted her dream. While traveling she engages with locals, absorbing memories of war, myths, legends, songs and stories that intertwine with her own identity—as the daughter of an ancient mermaid, a revolutionary, a primordial element and a virgin once hidden from sunlight. The film retells fragments of the American occupation, using unscripted Hiligaynon dialogue as tonal texture; meaning is drawn from faces, voices and actions, supplemented by subtitles and inter‑titles.
