Spoilers ahead

Daniel “Bugs” Raymond [Spencer Tracy] is a truck driver who grows weary of toiling without progress while business owners fatten their pockets. He sees that the trucks and their drivers are the engine that makes the industry powerful, and he hatches a protection racket to control when the rigs run and who benefits. This scheme lets him funnel money to himself and his crew, all while keeping hands clean enough to dodge the harshest penalties. Along the way, he spots Dorothy Stone [Marguerite Churchill], a wealthy woman with class, and a fierce attraction blooms even though he already has a girlfriend, Daisy De Lisle [Sally Eilers]. Dorothy is engaged to someone else, a detail that only complicates Bugs’s scheming and intensifies his drive to insert himself into her world.
