Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Echo Score Breakdown
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish delivers a largely satisfying animated experience that builds on its predecessor. Critics and audiences commend its striking visual style and the nuanced voice work of Antonio Banderas, while noting that the film introduces darker, more mature themes. Some reviewers point to uneven pacing and moments of blandness, especially in the middle act. Overall, the sequel registers as a strong, engaging entry that resonates with a broad viewership.
Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 85
In terms of art and craft, the film excels with a vibrant visual palette and fluid animation that blend digital precision with analog texture. Reviewers highlight the kinetic set pieces and richly detailed environments, calling the animation gorgeous and almost tactile. A minority note that the visual flair can feel like superficial eye candy, but the overall craftsmanship is widely praised.
- Character & Emotion 78
When evaluating character and emotion, the voice performances, particularly Banderas' portrayal of Puss, are consistently praised for depth and nuance. Supporting characters such as Papa Bear and Jack Horner receive commendation for complementary dynamics. Some audience feedback mentions disappointment with the Death character’s arc, yet the ensemble’s chemistry and emotional resonance remain strong overall.
- Story & Flow 70
The story and flow present a blend of familiar quest motifs with fresh, darker undertones. Critics recognize the introduction of three distinct antagonists and a more mature thematic core about confronting mortality. However, several reviewers cite a slowdown in the second act that reduces engagement. Despite this, the plot concludes with a satisfying crescendo that many find emotionally rewarding.
- Sensory Experience 82
Sensory experience is marked by a lush soundscape and a cohesive visual style that reinforce the film’s fairy‑tale atmosphere. The soundtrack supports the narrative without overwhelming it, and the sound design accentuates action sequences and emotional beats. While specific musical commentary is limited, the overall sensory delivery is regarded as immersive and polished.
- Rewatch Factor 80
Rewatch factor is high due to the film’s witty humor, layered themes, and memorable character interactions. Audience comments emphasize its appeal to both children and adults, encouraging repeat viewings. Minor criticisms of pacing may affect some repeat enjoyment, but the combination of visual splendor and engaging narrative sustains strong lasting appeal.

While hosting a lively celebration in the charming town of Del Mar, Puss in Boots bravely confronts a gigantic foe, only to be struck down by a church bell. Following his recovery, the town’s doctor, alarmed by Puss’s reckless lifestyle, advises him to retire since he has already exhausted eight of his nine lives. Initially resistant to the idea, Puss ultimately yields to the doctor’s wisdom after being injured in a duel with a menacing wolf at a local tavern. Deeply shaken by the encounter, he takes to the home of Mama Luna, an elderly cat lady, where he buries his tattered clothes. Months later, Puss finds companionship in a cheerful Chihuahua disguised as a cat, whom he affectionately names Perrito.
