Pushpa - The Rise 2021

Pushpa Raj, a self-made porter with a stubborn streak, teams up with his loyal friend Kesava to harvest red sandalwood for the feared smuggler Konda Reddy. In the late 1990s, the pair find themselves pulled into a dangerous game of wealth, power, and loyalty as Pushpa proves his nerve by outsmarting a seizure attempt led by the relentless DSP, and by pitching fresh ideas to smuggle logs past rigid checkpoints. The operation grows bolder, and Pushpa’s boldness catches the eye of the ruthless kin of the boss.

The main hand behind the operation, Mangalam Srinu, entrusts Pushpa with a full consignment and allocates him the task of shielding it from the police while ensuring it reaches its destination. But trouble simmers as Jaali Reddy, Konda Reddy’s jealous younger brother, harbors a growing resentment toward Pushpa’s rising fame and deliberately sabotages a dispatch, only for Pushpa to rescue the stock yet again. A party hosted by Srinu becomes a turning point: Pushpa uncovers that Srinu has been siphoning profits, prompting him to relay the truth to Konda Reddy, who chooses not to confront Srinu, and Pushpa reluctantly agrees to move forward with the arrangement.

Away from the smuggling world, Srivalli emerges as a pivotal figure in Pushpa’s life—a milk vendor and the daughter of one of Konda Reddy’s henchmen. Their growing bond faces a brutal test when Pushpa’s elder half-brother, Mohan Raj, arrives, denying Pushpa’s legitimacy and revealing the truth about their father’s family line. The revelation hits Pushpa hard, and his mother, Parvatamma, is injured in the ensuing scuffle, deepening his resolve to carve out his own name.

Determined to take control on his own terms, Pushpa breaks from Srinu and strikes a deal with a Chennai-based smuggler, Murugan, sharing profits with Konda Reddy in the process. The gamble pays off in the short term, but the tensions within the syndicate only intensify. In parallel, Mogileesu and his henchmen launch a bold threat when Jakka Reddy is placed in danger; Pushpa steps up, defeats Mogileesu, and rescues Jakka Reddy, a blow that rekindles a fragile friendship with Konda Reddy even as the old boss falls in the ensuing chaos.

At the funeral of Konda Reddy, MP Siddappa Naidu tries to broker peace between Pushpa and Srinu, but the derailed meeting ends with Pushpa being appointed to run the syndicate in Srinu’s stead, signaling Pushpa’s ascent into a new realm of influence. The rise is not without its enemies, however: Dakshayani—the vengeful wife of Srinu—swears to make Pushpa pay for Mogileesu’s death, while a hard-edged new adversary enters the picture.

Enter Bhanwar Singh Shekawat, a callous police officer who is soon pulled into Pushpa’s orbit. Pushpa offers monthly bribes and tries to project power, but the new cop responds with arrogance, humiliating Pushpa by stripping him of his pride and challenging him to survive without the trappings of authority. This clash detonates on Pushpa’s wedding night, when the officer’s humiliation culminates in a brutal act that pushes the two toward a long, bitter feud: the cop walks away, but not before firing at a loyal dog in a fit of fury, vowing revenge.

As the wedding to Srivalli proceeds, Pushpa’s defiant stance remains unshaken, and the world they’ve built begins to tilt toward a broader, darker terrain. The story closes with a sense that the conflict has only begun to unfold, and Pushpa’s path to power will come at a steep, uncompromising price. The film thoughtfully threads loyalty, ambition, and grit through a landscape where every alliance is tested and every decision carries a heavier cost than the last.
