Tonny Mads Mikkelsen is released from prison after a cellmate’s hard-won monologue about conquering fear and a debt he owes to his father, a ruthless gangster known as the Duke. Back on the street, he returns to his father’s garage hoping for a break, and though the Duke greets him with cold reserve, he offers Tonny a probationary chance to prove himself.
To show he can be useful, Tonny steals a Ferrari in a bid to impress the family, but the stunt backfires when the Duke rejects the gesture and lectures him on responsibility.
While hanging out with his friend Ø Øyvind Hagen-Traberg, Tonny discovers that he has a child with a local woman named Charlotte Anne Sørensen. Charlotte, who has been raising the child on her own, begins pressuring Tonny to start paying child support, and he finds himself drawn to the idea of taking responsibility, even as old loyalties pull him back toward trouble.
Tonny helps a local pimp, Kurt the Cunt Kurt Nielsen, broker a heroin deal with Milo Milo Zlatko Burić. When Milo’s thugs arrive late, Kurt panics and flushes the drugs down the toilet. With money tight, Kurt convinces Tonny to help buy him a gun and shoot Kurt in the arm to convince his backer that he was robbed. The ruse ties Tonny closer to the Duke’s finances, and everyone around him starts to pay a price for debt and deception.
While visiting Charlotte and his young son, Tonny learns how to change a diaper, a small moment of tenderness amid the chaos. Ø [Øyvind Hagen-Traberg] reveals he is about to marry his girlfriend Gry Maria Erwolter and start a family of his own, heightening the tension between old loyalties and new commitments.
At Ø’s wedding reception, the Duke delivers a harsh toast that cuts Tonny down, and Tonny’s temper flares when he sees Charlotte neglecting their child to snort cocaine with Gry in the club’s kitchen. He demands that she take the baby home, but she responds with scorn, and the confrontation spirals into a brutal clash before the two men part ways.
Kurt reappears outside, pressing Tonny to help him smash up his own apartment to bolster a cover story. After Kurt attacks a prostitute, Kurt admits his backer is the Duke, and Tonny realizes he has been pulled deeper into a doomed debt.
Tonny confronts his father, hoping to find a way to reconcile and pay what he owes. He offers to intimidate the Duke’s ex-wife Jeanette Linse Kessler, who is attempting to gain custody of Tonny’s half-brother, but the plan collapses. The Duke lashes out and berates him, pushing Tonny to a breaking point.
In a reckless act, Tonny stabs the Duke to death and flees the scene, searching for Ø, only to find Gry and Charlotte getting high and dismissing him. They leave the baby unattended, and Tonny, faced with a bleak choice, grabs the child and boards a bus, heading out of the city with his son.
Baby Lasse Wenkers in his arms, Tonny steps into an uncertain future, carrying with him the weight of violence, loyalty, and responsibility as the world he inhabits continues to crumble around him.
